What is a Simon Scholar?

Simon Scholars are students who have overcome adversity to accomplishment. Over 60% of Simon Scholars grew up speaking English as a second language and most are first generation college students from low-income households. Through the program, Simon Scholars have been thoroughly prepared with the academic, social and interpersonal skills to succeed in college and to become leaders in business, government, education or community service.

Simon Scholars:

  • Are committed to achieving the American dream of independence and self sufficiency
  • Have faced or are facing difficult life and/or economic circumstances
  • Have demonstrated determination to overcome such circumstances and obstacles
  • Have a strong work ethic, both in academics and in life
  • Have shown determination to set and exceed rigorous goals
  • Demonstrate academic achievement
  • Display strong character
  • Show commitment to give back to others and to the community in meaningful ways
